The Big Book of 30 Day Challenges is Here!

I’m excited to announce that The Big Book of 30 Day Challenges is finally here!

As many of you know, I spent much of 2017 working on this book, which is a short collection of 30-day challenge ideas for all aspects of life including fitness, food, productivity, learning, creativity, and relationships. The challenges are straightforward and easy to digest with rules, guides, tips, resources and, of course, a few stories and tidbits from my own experiences.

Reflections on three years of 30-day challenges

30-day challenges have been part of my life for the past 3 1/2 years. I’ve tinkered, explored, learned, abstained, struggled, experimented, made and practiced. Not all of my challenges have ended successfully, and not all of them have stuck, but the process of trying and doing has taught me a thing or two about willpower, self-discipline, discomfort, and how to follow through on the things I set out to accomplish (like writing and finishing a book!)

More importantly, and perhaps most unexpectedly, I’ve learned to find incredible satisfaction in the process of doing work – even when the work is redundant, draining or painful. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I wake up early to write or begin my to-do list. Recently, and out of nowhere, I’ve stopped resenting the household chores (not to be confused with nagging others about pitching in – that I still do). Folding laundry, raking leaves, emptying the dishwasher, are all things I used to complain about. Today, I do them contently.

(Not coincidentally, a theme that I’m exploring for next year is this idea of more production and less consumption).

Back to the book

The hardest part about writing this book was turning in the finished manuscript. I’m a slow writer. It’s not uncommon for me to edit a blog post 25 times before publishing. I’ll still go back and edit posts that I published months or even years ago because they didn’t read well.

I didn’t have that luxury with this book (what? you mean I can’t edit it seven more times?). I added, edited, scrapped and rewrote until the manuscript was pried from my reluctant hands, and it came at the expense of my own 30-day challenges and blog posts. So while 2017 wasn’t the year of consistency here on Hackerella, it was the year I published my first book.

I hope you give it a read and think about some of the changes you’ve been wanting to make – just in time for the holidays!  Here’s a link to purchase it on Amazon.
