I shouldn’t have been surprised. I have been doing all of the right things this month and then some. You can read about it here and here. I was hoping I would be the picture of health. But I knew something was still off. I could feel it.
When I reviewed my blood work with my doctor today, I was expecting a vitamin deficiency or a thyroid imbalance which could be remedied by a quick fix in my medication and supplements. And yes, we did discover some imbalances, specifically with vitamin D, magnesium and thyroid levels.
But there was more.
Let’s start with the results of my food sensitivity test which, I know, aren’t always 100% accurate. But the only way to know for sure is to remove them from my diet, slowly add them back in and see how I feel. Introducing my new forbidden foods:
- Avocado
- Egg white
- Egg yolk
- Ginger
- Honey
- Lemon
- Malt
- Spinach
- Squash
- Strawberry
- Tuna
- Turkey
- Walnut
- Yeast (brewers)
Really? Lemon and avocado? And eggs? My gorgeous fresh eggs from the farmers market? And brewers yeast is off limits too so that means wine is no bueno.
My other big whammy? Low blood sugar. I wasn’t expecting that. It turns out I have a high resistance to insulin, which means that my pancreas produce too much insulin making my blood sugar drop to below normal levels. Perhaps this explains my afternoon crashes? The remedy: cut out all sugar, except for a little fruit, and wine (2 strikes wine, 2 strikes) for the month and see what happens.
The bottom line is that these are all signs of inflammation in my system, and things I need to get in balance if I want to feel great and… prepare my body (MAYBE) for baby #3.
And so the journey continues. It’s amazing how super sensitive we are to the things we put into our bodies. And how different every body is.
Eventually, I would like to get to a point where I can enjoy some indulgences here and there. After all, isn’t life supposed to be fun?
Or maybe i’ll feel so damn good I won’t even miss them.
